Today's review is on For Whom The Spell Tolls H.P. Mallory
Yet
another of my favorite series has sadly come to an end. And while some
putter and fade away, the Dulcie O'Neil series is not one of them. I
have enjoyed each and every book, and have fallen head over heels with
all of the main players; especially a certain Loki. Every book has had
it's own individuality while still maintaining the overall plot.
Dulcie
and Knight have been through hell and back and have always found
themselves back in each others arms, but For Whom The Spell Tolls has
the toughest obstacles yet. Both of them, along with the rest of the
Resistance, are planning on taking down Dulcie's father once and for all,
and they'll need all the help they can get. But not all allies are
really allies at all, and some that are will pay the ultimate price.
I
cried throughout most of the entire second half of this installment!
Sometimes they were tears of joy while other times they were tears of
sorrow. The only thing I can think of that I wasn't to happy about is
that I would have at liked to have read that my favorite Loki to propose
to a certain fairy.

A war between The Resistance and the Netherworld,
A vampire who isn't all that he appears,
And the ultimate price that must be paid.
Dulcie O'Neil thought her luck couldn't get much worse but it's about to get a whole lot worse.
Forced
into declaring war against the Netherworld and her father, Dulcie will
find herself fighting for everything she believes in. In the process,
she'll have to decide whether or not to trust a centuries old vampire, a
decision which literally will mean life or death.
Luckily she's
got hunky love interest, Knightley Vander, by her side but things get
even stickier when she finds herself the subject of multiple men's
affections.

Book Review: Frost Burned
Today's review is on Frost Burned by Patricia Briggs
I really hate it when I anxiously wait for the next book in a series that I absolutely love to come out only to find that I'm so busy working that it takes me forever to read it. This is exactly what happened with Frost Burned.
This 7th installment of the Mercy Thompson; or should I say Hauptman, continues to show the fantastic writing style of Ms. Briggs. Each character; at least the good guys, begins to feel like members of your own family as you watch them face danger and excitement as well as tremendous love. It's no wonder that this is one of my all time FAVORITE book series.
Mercy's life has finally started to calm down since marrying Adam, the Alpha of the local werewolf pack. Or so she thought. While on a shopping trip with Jesse, her stepdaughter, Mercy begins to feel a bit on edge but doesn't really know what is causing it. And when Jesse brings up the subject of Mercy and her dad having a baby...well, let's just say that she becomes a bit frazzled causing her to get into a car accident that totals her car.
Mercy first calls her mate, but he doesn't answer. She then tries calling other members of the pack with the same results. Worried, Mercy reaches out to Adam through the mating bond and finds that he is angry and hurt. Unknown to her and Jesse, the pack has been kidnapped. And those that have abducted them are out to get not only her, but Jesse as well.
With a little help from her friends, Mercy must keep Jesse safe, rescue Adam and the pack, and try to stay alive. Our little Coyote has a lot on her plate.
Filled with action as well as a few twists, Frost Burned is another exciting installment in this amazing series. I'm now anxiously waiting for the next one.

Book Description: via Amazon
Mercy Thompson’s life has undergone a seismic change. Becoming the mate of Adam Hauptman—the charismatic Alpha of the local werewolf pack—has made her a stepmother to his daughter Jesse, a relationship that brings moments of blissful normalcy to Mercy’s life. But on the edges of humanity, what passes for a minor mishap on an ordinary day can turn into so much more…
After an accident in bumper-to-bumper traffic, Mercy and Jesse can’t reach Adam—or anyone else in the pack for that matter. They’ve all been abducted.
Through their mating bond, all Mercy knows is that Adam is angry and in pain. With the werewolves fighting a political battle to gain acceptance from the public, Mercy fears Adam’s disappearance may be related—and that he and the pack are in serious danger. Outclassed and on her own, Mercy may be forced to seek assistance from any ally she can get, no matter how unlikely.

Book Review: Miss Peregrine's Home for Peculiar Children
Today's review is on Miss Peregrine's Home for Peculiar Children by Ransom Riggs
I must say that I only picked up this book because of all the hype I have heard about it. Though the cover is interesting, it didn't really pull me in. Thankfully though I found the story did. The story is well written, with such vivid descriptions you can almost feel your own feet sinking into the bogs of Wales and feel the ocean breeze on your face.
Jacob is stuck in a hum-drum, boring life. The most excitement he ever gets is the amazing stories that his grandfather tells him about the children under the care of Miss Peregrine and his short time there. The stories of invisible boys and girls that can float in the sky turn into just that, stories as Jacob grows up and his grandfather ages. He now longer believes them to be true and chocks them up to his grandfathers vivid imagination.
Everything changes however on the night that his grandfather passes on. His final words cryptic in nature. Jacob is not safe. He needs to find "The Bird". He will be safe with "The Bird".
Set on uncovering everything from his grandfather's past, Jacob winds up on the adventure of his life.
Though I did enjoy the book, I found some errors that should have been caught by the editor. I also felt that the photo's mixed into the story were unnecessary and interrupted the flow of the book. Besides that, I read this book on my Kindle and they were VERY difficult to make out, as were the shots of the letters that were written. Perhaps they are not the type of things one should put into an ebook.

Book Review: Fall of Night
Today's review is on Fall of Night by Rachel Caine
If you look back and check out my review for book 13 you'll realize that though it didn't end with a major cliffhanger, it did leave me wanting to know what was going to happen next. Thankfully I didn't have to wait long to find out.
I think I have loved Shane from the very first book. It's not just his "bad boy" attitude, but all of the hardships he has suffered in his short life. He is the true "underdog". And though he is emotionally scarred, he will do anything to protect those he loves. Especially Claire. But under that smart mouth and quick reflexes there lies an insecure little boy with a heart of pure gold.
It's no secret that Shane has always had a jealous side, and that jealously got out of hand in the last book. Instead of believing Calire; the woman he wants to spend the rest of his life with, he choose not to. Needless to say, this created a big "bump in the road" in their relationship. So when Amelie let's Claire have the option to attend MIT in Boston she decides to go for it. But as the saying goes, you can take the girl out of Morganville but you can NEVER take the Morganville AWAY from the girl.
Wanting to live a "normal" life, Claire is excited to begin working with Professor Irene Anderson. She never expected that Anderson was actually Myrnin's previous assistant, and when the Professor takes an interest in VLAD she becomes confused. Enter the men in black suits, and all hell breaks loose. Thank goodness Shane followed her to Boston. (To watch out for her from a distance that is.)
The war between the humans and the vampires has begun, and it has started with Claire and her friends. This time though, they all may not make it out alive. Even with Oliver and Myrnin's help.
Now I can hardly wait for book 15!!

Claire never thought she’d leave Morganville, but when she gets accepted into the graduate program at MIT, she can’t pass up the opportunity. Saying good-bye to her friends is bittersweet, especially since things are still raw and unsettled between Claire and her boyfriend, Shane.
Her new life at MIT is scary and exciting, but Morganville is never really far from Claire’s mind. Enrolled in a special advanced study program with Professor Irene Anderson, a former Morganville native, Claire is able to work on her machine, which is designed to cancel the mental abilities of vampires.
But when she begins testing her machine on live subjects, things quickly spiral out of control, and Claire starts to wonder whether leaving Morganville was the last mistake she’ll ever make...

Book Review: Tempest's Fury
Today's review is on Tempest's Fury by Nicole Peeler
I know, I know. Tempest's Fury was published almost a year ago, but I have been so busy with my TBR list that it took me this long to finally get to it, and it took me a few days to read it! But that's not because I didn't have the time. It's because I was basically bored for the first half of the book. Well, to be honest, it was the constant "almost sex" between Jane and Anyan that was the worst part. I mean HELLO! It's the fifth book! They should have been bonking already! Multiple times!! Thankfully though things finally got exciting and low and behold, my prayers were finally answered in the second half of the book.
Jane has been chosen to be the Joan of Arc of the supernatural world. A "job" she doesn't even want. After all, she's no hero. Anyan and Blondie are the hero's. But Morrigan wants to raise the Red Queen and the White King, and Jane is the only one that can stop it. Along the way, she has to deal with annoying and medeling Alfar, double crossing spys, her main nemesis, being kidnapped by the rebel leader, and being kidnapped by the so called good guys! That's a lot to deal with, and a battle of this magnitude really puts things into perspective. It helps you to see what's really important in life. And for Jane it's Anyan.
In Tempest's Fury we are finally given the back story of Anyan. We are privy to all of the pain, the sorrow, the accomplishments, and love that shaped him and made him the man he is now. Believe it or not, I actually got choked up reading that part. But nothing prepared me for the ultimate event. At least the sexual part! (Why can't my husband do that??) Nor did I think the ending would be as sad as it were. An ending that may be Jane's breaking point. Thank God I already have book 6!!

Book Description: via Amazon
Jane's not happy. She's been packed off to England to fight in a war when she'd much rather be snogging Anyan. Unfortunately, Jane's enemies have been busy stirring up some major trouble -- the kind that attracts a lot of attention. In other words, they're not making it easy for Jane to get any alone time with the barghest, or to indulge in her penchant for stinky cheese.
Praying she can pull of a Joan of Arc without the whole martyrdom thing, Jane must lead Alfar and halflings alike in a desperate battle to combat an ancient evil. Catapulted into the role of Most Unlikely Hero Ever, Jane also has to fight her own insecurities as well as the doubts of those who don't think she can live up to her new role as Champion.
Along the way, Jane learns that some heroes are born. Some are made. And some are bribed with promises of food and sex.

Book Review: Roman's Gold
****Not intended for those under the age of 18***
Today's review is on Roman's Gold by Ann Gimpel
What is there to say about Gimpel that I haven't already said? In each review I have written for her books I have praised her writing style, her fantastic writing voice, as well as her ability to change genre's between romance and erotic romance. And let's get serious, you all know I live vicariously through the characters in the not-so PG genre.
While some of Gimpel's books are a little low on the sex, Roman's Gold takes off at a run. It's, uh hum well, fast and hard right from page two. So much so that I posted the following on Facebook: "Reading Ann Gimpel's upcoming release, Roman's Gold. Only two chapters in and I need a willing partner!! Or at least a cold shower." In other words, not only were Kate and Devon's juices flowing, but...well you get the idea.
Things around the country change a bit in the future. The human population will realizes that they live alongside shifters. Those who change from human to animals such as wolves, bears, mountain lions, and others. And as humans do now, those in the future fear what is different and decide that the only good world is one where shifters are no longer around. In an effort to eradicate these abominations, the government creates not only an elite team of law enforcement agents but a drug that gives these men heightened senses.
Devon Heartshorn, a half Paiute Indian, has always wanted to go to law school. Sadly though half Paiute wasn't enough for the Tribal Consortium to underwrite his education so he joined the San Bernardino County Sheriff's office. It all went down hill from there. He found out his wife was sleeping with other men, he was drowning in mortgage debt, and his dream of law school went up in smoke. He finally left San Bernardino, and took a job as a lieutenant with the City of Berkeley Police Department. A job that required him to take the new drug and hunt shifters.
Kate; a sex surrogate, knew someone was following her but she played it cool. She was almost to her office. Once there she hurried inside, locked the door, and gazed through the obscured glass. The man following her was literally tall, dark, and handsome. And hung like a...you get the gist.
After seeing her, Devon can't get Kate off his mind. The thinks of her all day and dreams of her each night. He has to meet her, to talk to her, and to get to know her. After a staged first meeting; on his part, and later posing as a client, he makes his move. But with shifter blood in the mix you never know what will happen. Or should I say what animal will happen. Will Kate and Devon's passion be the end of them both, or will it be their salvation?
Roman's Gold is just book one in Gimpel's Underground Heat series. I'm sure there will be more danger, adventure, and sex in store for Kate and Devon. Maybe some kittens, I mean kids in their future.

Book Description: via Amazon
Travel into the future where a new law dooms shifters to life on the run, or worse. Most will be captured and sent to prison, many will die along the way, and the lucky few will find their way to the underground and the promise of safety. Ann Gimpel spins a sexy tale of danger, passion, and love in Book 1 of her new paranormal shifter series, Underground Heat.
Once respected members of society, shifters are running for their lives. In a futuristic world where resources are scarce, Kate uses her human form to work as a sex surrogate. Furious at what looks a lot like genocide for her people, she joins the shifter underground.
Devon’s been a cop for a long time. He has shifter blood, but not enough to change into anything; at least not until the police department insists on a series of infusions to make him better at tracking shifters so they can be imprisoned—or killed.
Devon’s latest assignment is Kate. From the moment he sees her, he can’t get her out of his mind. The line between hunter and hunted thins, blurs, and finally disappears. Kate and Devon defy the odds. Will their passion save them or doom them forever?

Book Review: Ready For Him
Today's Review is on Ready For Him by Tanith Davenport
Ready For Him is just one of the steamy stories in the Tied to the Billionaire anthology. And if Ready For Him is any indication, I'm certain that the other 5 are just as hot.
Jade and her three friends are in Las Vegas where she will be the Bridesmaid for all three of their weddings. Each blushing bride will be getting married to her loving groom at the same time. But before the big day there's time for a few drinks at the hotel's bar where Jade spots a young man she wouldn't mind getting to know sitting across the room.
With Jade's multiple tattoos, piercings, and colorful Mohawk, it's not been easy for her to find love. Even the guys at her dojo are scared of her. But those dojo skills come in handy when she sees the same handsome blonde from the bar being attacked. Once jade has the situation under control and the attacker is carted away, the oddly familiar man then offers Jade a nightcap, and an evening of sexual pleasure like none she's ever had before.
This novella is enjoyable, it's hot, and it's erotic. The best part however is how Davenport explains the BDSM lifestyle. Written in such a way that she has, it takes away the fear some may have about experimenting with it. I'm not talking paddles and whips right now, but what's the harm in a little blindfolding and ties? I wonder if. . .
I was only asked to read this one sexy story, but now I'm ready for more. In more ways than you think. **wink, wink**

the bar at the Bellagio in Las Vegas, Jade Bleecker celebrates with her
three best friends, all of whom are there to get married - Jade is
their bridesmaid, and beginning to believe that three times a bridesmaid
really does mean never a bride. Tattooed, pierced and a martial artist,
Jade is used to inspiring fear rather than desire in men, and even if
she did find one who could handle her - well, no man is worth trusting
with her body.
But,
as she is leaving the bar, she comes upon a mugging in progress and,
with a few swift moves, makes short work of the mugger. Invited up to
the victim's room for a nightcap, she is stunned to discover he is Will
Vandenmeer - billionaire poster child of the Vandenmeer hotel and casino
chain, and owner of The Sanctuary, one of the best known BDSM clubs in
New York City.

EXCERPT:
“Don’t worry, you’re in no danger here. I’m
putting the suite under lockdown. It’s not the first time this has happened,
and I won’t have any more innocent rescuers hurt in retaliation. Bryn and Matt
have radioed my team and they’re dealing with it.”
For fuck’s
sake!
Jade screwed her eyes shut for a moment,
forcing herself to calm down.
Okay.
I don’t like it, but he’s right. Shit, what have I got myself into?
“Relax,” said Will, and Jade opened her
eyes again to glare at him. “You’re safe with me. Despite what you may have
heard.”
And Jade’s stomach spiralled as she
remembered the other, less-publicised aspect of Will Vandenmeer.
His club.
It had created a frenzy in the press at
first, but the stories had come to an abrupt halt—probably, Jade guessed, due to
a heavy-handed legal team. The Sanctuary was hidden in the heart of New York
City, a haven for those who lived the hardcore BDSM lifestyle. Patrons were
protected, behaviour was strictly regulated, and membership was revoked for the
slightest infringement. It was not a place for dabblers.
Will Vandenmeer was a dominant, and didn’t
care who knew it.
‘You’re
safe with me’. Will was holding her gaze now, and
Jade refused to look away, although her body was rebelling against her—torn
between the flutter of nerves in her gut and a stab of desire in her cunt.
Maybe she was safe with him. Maybe she
wasn’t.
Or maybe she didn’t want to be.
“Okay. Tell me what you know about me.”
Jade’s fingers involuntarily clenched
around the stem of her glass.
“Wait.” Will picked up his own glass,
holding his other hand out as though calming a spooked horse. “Scrap that for
now. Let me tell you what I’m getting from you.”
Oh
really? Jade raised one pierced eyebrow at him.
“What’s your full name?”
“Jade Bleecker.”
“Nice. Jade Bleecker.” Will took a sip from
his glass. “You’re a strong woman. You clearly know how to handle yourself.
You’ve got at least three tattoos and two piercings that I can see, and
probably more that I can’t, so you’re not afraid of pain. And you know what BDSM
is, right?”
Jade nodded slowly. Where are you going with this?
“Right. And you’re curious about it.” Will
was watching her very closely as he spoke, and Jade held herself very still.
“But you think it means all the worst things people say. You think dominants
beat their submissives down, that we don’t give a damn about their pleasure,
that we expect them to give up everything for our benefit. Right?”
I’m
not telling you anything. Jade could feel her face
falling into a mask. If Will noticed, he made no comment.
“Are you single?”
“Mmm.”
“‘Mmm’? Okay.” Will’s eyes were dancing,
and Jade’s jaw set in annoyance. “What would you say if I told you that BDSM is
nothing like that, Jade?”
Silence fell between them.
“What would you say if I offered to—”
“Wait.” Jade held up a hand, cursing
inwardly as she realised it was trembling.
What
the hell am I doing?
You
want this, a voice taunted in her head.
I
don’t even know him and he’s talking about BDSM. I can’t do this. I can’t.
But the image from the bar of herself held
down, tied down, putting all her trust in one man, still flickered in her head,
and something inside her was urging her forward.
“Tell me what you’re thinking,” Will said,
breaking into her thoughts, and Jade found herself answering without thinking.
“I couldn’t do it.”
“Do you want
to?”
“That doesn’t matter. I couldn’t.”
“Why not?”
“Because I don’t trust any man with my
body.” Jade snapped her mouth shut abruptly, hating the look that had come into
Will’s eyes at the words.
Because
I’ve been fucked over before. Because I’m a screw-up. Because I don’t need your
fucking pity. Go to hell.
“That’s actually a very good reason why you
could.”
Jade looked up at him, torn between
curiosity and defiance.
“What does that mean?”
Will tilted his head to one side, looking
her up and down. “You look like a person who might like dangerous sports. Think
of bungee jumping. The danger is what attracts people, but any reputable
company has a thousand regulations in place before they let anyone do it,
precisely because of that danger. Right?
“BDSM works the same way. You’re right not
to trust just anyone—but in the community—in my club, for instance,
relationships are tightly controlled. Every Dom has rules to follow, as does
every sub. Break the rules and you’re thrown out. We protect our patrons.”
Jade nodded slowly.
“Not everyone uses contracts, but even
without them, limits and boundaries are agreed beforehand. So are safewords.
The universal word is ‘red’, but many people choose their own. If I did
anything to you that you didn’t want, you would use your word and I would
stop—no questions asked. The trust is absolute.”
“I see.”
Jade reached for her drink, but her hand
was shaking, and hastily she put it back on the table. As if he could tell what
she was feeling, Will’s voice took on a seductive quality, and Jade bit down on
her lip as a rush of desire flashed through her body.
“It’s all about needs. Ours are different,
that’s all. You take pleasure in doing what I want. I take pleasure in
fulfilling your needs. It has to be reciprocal.”
I
take pleasure… You take pleasure… He’s talking as though we’re going to—
The thought made her catch her breath.
Immediately Will’s eyes were on hers, and Jade found it impossible to look
away.
“Do you still think you couldn’t do it?”
“No.”
Will arched an eyebrow. “Would you like me
to show you?”
I
want…
“Yes,” Jade heard herself saying, unable to
drag her gaze away from Will’s. He smiled.
